A Place Called Heaven Part 1

Revelation 21-22.  Isaiah 65:12-25

March 6, 2005. Pastor Matt

When He teaches us to pray…

Matthew 6:9-10.  "This, then, is how you should pray: "`Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,  your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Matthew 10:32-33.  "Whoever acknowledges me before men, I will also acknowledge him before my Father in heaven.  But whoever disowns me before men, I will disown him before my Father in heaven.

This is only a cookie crumb of the bigger “cookie”

Is there a Heaven and what will it be like?

1. Heaven is a real place

21:1.  “first heaven and first earth”

-         This is the beginning of the rest of eternity for us.

2 Corinthians 5:17.  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

From the time we accept Christ on, we no longer feel comfortable in this world

1 Peter 2:11.  Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul.

I used to say, “life stinks and then you die”

After all Ecclesiastes 12:8.  "Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Everything is meaningless!"

Is this true???

Matthew 5:11-12.  "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.  Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Matthew 6: 20.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…

Galatians 6:9.  Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Because Heaven is a new Creation…

-         No past to look back upon.

-         No more connection with earth or humanness as we know it.

Isaiah 65:17.  "Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

Isaiah was prophesying about a day coming when God will make things right

People have been looking forward to this place called Heaven for a long time now

Jesus has predicted His death but He leaves the disciples with hope…

John 14:1-2.  "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God ; trust also in me.  In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.

A place: any portion or space marked off, as it were from surrounding space. 1a an inhabited place, as a city, village, district.

1 Corinthians 2:9-10.  However, as it is written: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him" --  but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.   The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God.

You know within yourself what you have to look forward to
